About Cave Canem

“Cave Canem” translates to "Beware of the Dog" in Latin. Cave Canem Designs will have quality artwork and apparel for the dog owner. Not only will resin sculptures be available but future plans include T-shirts, jewelry, illustrations and working bulldog related art (protection, weight pull and catch work etc.) I will also paint any of my sculptures to match your very own bulldog. Cave Canem will include other bull breeds as well the mastiff breeds.

About Me

My name is Matt Hicks, I have been working as a commercial artist in the toy industry since 1996. I have worked on licensed characters for Mattel, Disney, Dreamworks, DC Comics, and many others. I started Cave Canem Designs in the hope of combining my love of bull and mastiff breeds with my artistic abilities. Most of the work I do for the toy and premium industry is sculpting, I have done some illustration and design work in the past. I work primarily in wax and then make molds and transfer the art work in to whatever medium the final product will be. I have made items in Bronze, resin, and ceramic. Being a dog lover myself I was very disappointed in the breed specific items I found for the collector. I feel that the few items of artwork aimed at the Bull and Mastiff breeds is lacking in quality and the correct representation of the powerful breeds we all know and love. I hope that Cave Canem Designs will provide quality items that the dog lover will be proud to own.
